Ishan Kishan scored 21 – ball 62 and enabled Mumbai Indians to an emphatic 102 – run win over Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League(IPL) at the Eden Gardens on Wednesday. Ishan pounced on the KKR bowlers like a hungry Tiger, as he has been waiting to make an impression for the last five years.
Ishan’s outstanding performance featured some excellent footwork and exemplary shots selection. He hit six sixes, including four on the trot off Kuldeep in the 14th over. He set a perfect stage for following batsmen by contributing at a strike rate of more than 295, in a blazing 34 – ball 88 – run stand for the 3rd wicket with Rohit Sharma.
Ishan departed in the 15th over, caught at the backward square leg while trying another six off Sunil Narine. Rohit added 33 runs with Hardik Pandya, but it was Ben Cutting’s cameo, a nine-ball 21, which spurred MI to garner 22 off the last over by Chawla.
Chawla is KKR’s most expensive bowler. KKr bled profusely in the last seven overs, conceding 98 runs. KKR lost seven wickets under pressure, including two run outs, for 76 inside 11 overs. Hardik’s 3rd over, which saw the back of Dinesh Karthik and Nitish Rana, denied the host any chance of a comeback and worsened its poor track record against MI.
KKR lost to MI.
